Tibial Nerve Stimulation (TNS) In General

Before comparing the TNS therapies, our general observations are:

  • Commercial and clinical interest in TNS therapy for OAB symptoms is growing. TNS clearly works for some patients.

  • Patients may reasonably ask if success with one approach predicts success with another. We are unaware of statistical evidence, but some anecdotes suggest it may.

  • If you have no contraindications to TNS, deciding whether to try a TNS alternative is a knowledge-based decision. Knowing whether the therapy mitigates your OAB symptoms requires experience.

  • If you want to switch to another TNS therapy later, try it. If the results are unsatisfactory, you may return to a successful approach.

  • Whether patients can always successfully migrate between TNS alternatives is unknown. However, patients have successfully migrated from PTNS to TTNS.

  • Much remains to be learned about TNS. Every patient's experience could contribute to that understanding.
