Our Working Hypothesis

OAB Therapy 101 believes that one plausible explanation for TTNS’s limited use in the United States is that treatment efficacy may depend partly on the patient placing the surface electrodes correctly and consistently.

This is different from PTNS:

  • PTNS Therapy: A trained clinician places the needle electrode using anatomical landmarks and then evaluates the patient’s response before beginning stimulation therapy in the clinic.
  • TTNS Therapy: The patient positions the surface electrodes and continues with therapy at home.

We may prove to be correct, partly correct, or incorrect.

As we gain experience with TTNS, our understanding may change.
